Who we are

Vision

To increase the quality of sign language services for the Deaf through intensive training, clear innovative teaching methodologies and concise practice of code of ethics in various fields of interpreting services.

To assist people providing the services to have a meaningful session with the Deaf so as to reach the highest percentage possible in providing accurate information to the Deaf clientele and even at times to the interest of the hearing public as well.

To propagate to the hearing community the importance of Deaf culture so as to strengthen their accessibility in the mainstream of society and lobby for their legal rights so they will be of equal footing with their hearing counterparts.

Mission

The mission of the Philippine Association of Interpreters for Deaf Empowerment (PAIDE) is to provide quality and accurate sign language interpretation in all transactions involving deaf persons. We shall accomplish this mission by means of training highly effective and capable sign language interpreters that would break the language barrier existing between the hearing and the Deaf.

It shall serve as a national agency serving the Deaf community in the Philippines in general and the various sectors empowering the Deaf community in particular.

  • Mr. Alfredo D. Celada, Jr CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

    Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and completed his academic units in Master of Arts degree in Education with Specialization in School Administration and Supervision at Adamson University. Mr. Celada is a registered sign language interpreter of the Philippine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (PRID); Philippine Association of Interpreters for Deaf Empowerment (PAIDE) and formerly the President of Philippine National Association of Sign Language Interpreters (PNASLI).He is also an Associate Member of Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), USA. He has given seminars and workshops on required interpreting skills and interpreters’ code of ethics and other related topics here and abroad.

  • Dr. Joy L. Cristal VICE CHAIRMAN

    Has been in service of the Deaf people for 32 years now. She holds a Ph.D. in Applied Cosmic Anthropology from the Asian Social Institute, a Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Santo Tomas and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology degree from the Lyceum of the Philippines University. She is a licensed professional teacher, a Registered Guidance Counselor and a Registered Psychologist. At present, she is an Associate Professor at the School of Deaf Education and Applied Studies and the Guidance Counselor for the Deaf students at the Center for Counseling Services of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. The College recently awarded Dr. Cristal for 15 years of dedicated service. Before her stint at DLS-CSB, she served in five institutions - Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf, Miriam College-Deaf Program, CAP College School for the Deaf, Ragama School for the Deaf in Sri Lanka, and the Catholic Ministry to Deaf People (CMDP). Dr. Cristal does community service primarily in the Deaf community and organizations such as the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse (CPTCSA and the Salvatorian Pastoral Care for Children of her former Community at the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Savior.

  • Capt. Ricardo B. De los Santos CORPORATE SECRETARY

    Corporate Secretary and PAIDE's Sign Language Training Consultant has a Master of Arts degree in Education Major in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Manila. He was the former school principal of the Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf (SAID) and at present, the principal of Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) National High School. He is also the President of Las Pinas Elementary and Secondary School Principals Association (LPESSPA) and the Commandant of USAR-Unified Search and Rescue Academy.

  • Sonia B. Lodado BOARD TREASURER

    Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Management. She took up her masters units in special education for hearing impaired at the Philippine Normal University and Miriam College and 21 masters units in educational management at the Marikina Polytechnic College. She has served as Special Education teacher at the Southeast Asian Institute for the Deaf (SAID) and currently a SpEd Teacher 2 at the BATINO Elementary School and a sign language trainer at PAIDE.

  • Dra. Catherine H. Tuazon BOARD MEMBER

    She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and is a graduate of Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). She is also one of PAIDE's registered sign language interpreters. She is currently in Canada working in a sleep clinic.

  • Michael S. Potian BOARD MEMBER

    Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technology at Family Clinic. Earned units in Philosophy and M. A. units in Education with Specialization in School Administration and Supervision at Adamson University. Has been teaching the Deaf for 18 years at Angeli Dei Schools, a private special school in Mandaluyong City. He is a Licensed Professional Teacher and a Sign Language Training Officer of PAIDE. Serving as Sign Language Interpreter for 17 years, TV-inset interpreter of Kapwa Ko Mahal Ko Foundation, Inc. (longest running public service program on Philippine television, GMA-7) and currently a Board Member of PNASLI (Phil. National Assoc. of Sign Language Interpreters).

Our Philosophy

PAIDE adheres to the Philosophy of Total Communication (TC) whereby all forms and means of communication known to Deaf persons are utilized, e.g., simultaneous speaking and signing, lip reading, cued speech, body language, facial expressions, gestures and the like to have meaningful sessions with the Deaf people in the silent world.

Code of Ethics

The organization adopts and maintains the policy of peaceful and harmonious co-existence with other sign language schools and organizations. Here is PAIDE’s Sign Language Interpreters Code of Ethics.
